ICAO SG visits CASSOA, had talks with staff and experts from member states.
20th May 2019. The secretary general of International Civil Aviation Organisation, Dr. Fang Liu paid a courtesy visit to EAC CASSOA Offices. The ICAO SG was accompanied by ICAO Regional Director – ESAF Mr. Barry Kashambo , Mr Mam Jallow RD ICAO WACAF, iSASO Executive Director Suzette Nieuwoudt, alternate representative of Spain on the Council Air Navigation Commissioner ICAO Mr Ismael Serrano and Deputy Director Monitoring and Oversight, Air Navigation Bureau Capt. Denis Guindon. Capt. Gilbert Kibe, DG KCAA on behalf of Board Chairman, opened the meeting. Members of staff had an interactive session with Dr. Fang Liu where she was briefed on the activities of the agency, success stories and challenges. ICAO SG was happy with the progress made and urged the Agency to continue supporting members states to meet their oversight obligation. The ICAO SG came in Uganda to attend the 6th Edition of Africa and Indian Ocean aviation week which started on 24th to 17th May 2019 at Munyonyo Resort. EAC CASSOA was given an opportunity to exhibit her works during the AFI week in Munyonyo.
During Dr. Fang Liu visit, she was able to also interact with experts from Partner states who were in CASSOA offices to review FCL Syllabus and develop ATC examination questions. It was an opportunity for experts to share experience with the guests.
This is another visit by a high-ranking ICAO official following one in March 2012 of a former ICAO Secretary General, Mr. Raymond Benjamin.
