6th EAC Aviation Symposium

The 6th EAC Aviation Symposium was held from 15th – 16th May 2024 in Zanzibar, United Republic of Tanzania. The Symposium was jointly organized by the East African Community Civil Aviation Safety and Security Oversight Agency and the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority under the theme: ‘The Future of Aviation: Maintaining Resilient, Sustainable, Innovative, Safe, and Secure Aviation Systems.’

The EAC Aviation Symposium was established by the CASSOA Board as a means of raising awareness on issues affecting Aviation Safety & Security globally and specifically in the EAC Region. The Symposium also provides a forum for interaction among Aviation stakeholders to share their knowledge and experiences.

The Symposium was officially opened by His Excellency Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi President of Zanzibar and the Chairperson of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar.

Prior to the official opening, there were remarks made by the Minister of Infrastructure, Communication, and Transport, the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, Principal Secretary; Ministry of Infrastructure, Communication, and Transport- Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, Speaker of the East African Legislative Assembly, Deputy Regional Director ICAO- ESAF, Director General – Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority and also Board Chair EAC-CASSOA and the Executive Director of EAC-CASSOA.

Hon. Secretary General visits EAC CASSOA

The newly appointed Secretary General of East African Community Hon. Dr. Peter Mathuki visited the Agency on Friday 14th May 2021. The Speaker of East African Legislative Assembly Rt. Hon. Martin Ngoga, Judge President of the East African Court of Justice Hon. Justice Nestor Kayobera and other member of staff from EAC accompanied him.

This was a planned visit by Hon. SG to EAC Institutions aiming at familiarising with activities of EAC Institutions and sharing of experiences and challenges facing institutions that CASSOA is one of them.

COVID-19 Preparedness Training

EAC-CASSOA in cooperation with AMREF Flying Doctors (AFD) has organized an emergency COVID-19 Intervention Training for staff and other airport Stakeholders at eight (8) international airports in the six (6) EAC Partner States during this time of minimized activities at airports prior to resumption of normal travel. The Training is facilitated by the German Government through the Deutsche Gesellschaftfür Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in its effort to support States in their response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The objective of the Training is to enhance awareness of National and airport emergency preparedness and response plans, public health capacities at the airports and prevention and surveillance of the spread of COVID-19 in and out of the Region through airports. It is also geared towards building on and improving existing frameworks and resources to develop more robust emergency management systems and procedures while at the same time facilitating airport collaboration.

5th EAC Aviation Symposium

16th March, 2020. The 5th Edition of EAC Aviation symposium was hosted by The Republic of Burundi on 27th and 28th of February 2020. Burundi Civil Aviation Authority offer to host the event soon after the closure of the 4th edition which took place in Nairobi Kenya.

His Excellency Second Vice President of the Republic of Burundi Honorable Joseph Butore officially opened the Symposium. A number of presentations where done on different topics under the theme: evolving with dynamic technological transformation the case of aviation safety and security. Participants were also engaged through panel discussions and questions and answers.

CASSOA Visits Moi International Airport.

16th April, 2018. EAC CASSOA Board Members together with Management of the Agency paid a visit to Moi international Airport on 6th of April 2018. The delegation was received by Aeronautical Information System Manager on behalf of Station Manager.

The delegation was given a chance to see the activities of various units within the station such as Engineering & Control room, Radar Control center, Control Tower Room and Flight Planning & Briefing Office.

Moi International Airport , is the international airport of Mombasa, the second-biggest city in Kenya. It is located in Mombasa County, in a township called Port Reitz and features regional as well as intercontinental flights.

EALA visits CASSOA – 20th February 2018

The 4th East African Legislative Assembly undertook an on-spot assessment to explore opportunity for enhancing integration in the central & Northern corridor of EAC region. Honorable members also got an insight on the operation of CASSOA among other EAC Institutions. Board members present, Ag. ED Mr Emile Nguza Arao and EAC CASSOA staff received EALA Members.

4th EAC Aviation Symposium

The 4th East African Community Civil Aviation Safety and Security Oversight Agency (CASSOA) symposium was held in Nairobi, Kenya from 1st to 2nd February 2018 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel under the theme of ‘Aviation Safety and Collaborative Approach’. The symposium was held as an initiative to review CASSOA’s safety and harmonization programmes including the assistance to partner states to assist them in meeting ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices.
