Saidi Onga’s Candle burns out
Saidi Onga (above) former Director of Air Navigation Services for Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority. On 23 rd February 2016, Saidi Onga succumbed to death following a long illness. To the East African aviation fraternity, the name Saidi Onga is more than familiar. He was a seasoned Air Traffic Management (ATM) inspector from the United Republic of Tanzania who served in the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority and later progressed to become the acting Director of Air Navigation Services until his death.
Our deepest sympathy go to the TCAA and especially the ATS family, the EAC ANS colleagues and course mates and the CASSOA ANS Working Group members. As far as CASSOA’s interaction with Saidi Onga is concerned, he actively participated in the development of harmonized EAC ANS Regulations and Technical Guidance Materials for the Partner States’ aviation fraternity. Also at the regional level, he was a member of the Committee charged with the study and implementation of the EAC Upper Flight Information Region.
All the above is proof that Saidi Onga was a great contributor to the development of ANS safety oversight in the region. He was laid to rest on 25th February 2016 in his ancestral home of Songea, in the United Republic of Tanzania. Surely, he will be missed by many.
